MORE ABOUT TONY CHERONE
Tony Cherone is a nationally recognized tennis professional whose impact on the Memphis tennis community spans more than three decades. As both an award-winning coach and passionate instructor, Tony has transformed Collierville’s tennis programs into some of the state’s most inclusive and respected development programs.
Tony’s tennis journey began as a walk-on at the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he first learned the value of perseverance, teamwork, and growth—not as a top collegiate player, but as someone committed to earning every opportunity on and off the court. His own playing career exploded as an adult as a key role contributor on dozens of state and regional championship USTA adult teams at the 4.5 and 5.0 level. His playing career highlight includes making the semi-finals of the national mixed doubles championships with his daughter, Lawrence "Lolly" Taylor, in 2010.
Over more than 30 years of coaching, Tony has built a legacy not just of winning teams, but of welcoming everyone to the game. As an instructor, he remains committed to hands-on teaching, seeing his greatest achievements in the growth and character of everyday players, not just the trophy count.
While Tony has stepped into program-building and leadership on a large scale, he continues to work personally with players of all ages and ambitions, combining elite instruction with a genuine belief that every student deserves the chance to thrive.
